Hofbarones Katrijn van Delden has four horses on her property – three retired pacers (Standardbreds) and a cheeky mini. Currently her Standardbred Gelding, Hawkowl, is in training for a few demonstration activites at Radburne War including parade (carrying a flag), rings, obstacles and quintain.
Katrijn will be providing a chance to meet the horses as well as an information session at the Equestrian Field.
If you’re coming to say hello to the horses, please keep some things in mind:
❤️ We love it when people bring treats for our horses, but some horses are on strict diets. Please feel free to bring your horsey treats with you, but please check with a human before feeding them to the horses (the horses will say ‘yes’ to anything!). Carrots, apples, and sweet potatoes are a great option for cheap treats – just make sure you cut them into bite-sized pieces.
❤️ When we’re out and about, please give us space! Horses are prey animals with a blindspot directly behind them, so they’re easily spooked by loud noises and sudden movement. Don’t run towards them, stay a few metres back from horses being ridden or led around site, and keep your movements calm and quiet.
❤️It’s not you, it’s us! If an equestrian instructs you to step away from their horse or not interact with their horse, please follow that instruction and don’t be offended. It’s our responsibility to ensure our horses are safe and safe to be around, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Treat this situation the same as a marshal calling “Hold!” on the list field.
❤️ Please do not visit/pat the horses unless their owner is with you – horse yards are off limits unless you are with the horse’s owner.
Thank you for supporting our horses and their humans!
There is room to bring your own horse if you wish – arrangements to be made prior to the event. Please contact Katrijn at houseradburne@gmail.com
